This year, the students in the art department have been asked to produce poppies to contribute to a remembrance display at Werrington Library.

2. The first important step to making the poppies was the design.
Students were asked to come up with three designs each, they sketched the poppies from their own creative imagination and were then required to add colour ready to demonstrate how they would be painted once created.
The designs speak for themselves…

4. The poppies were then hand made from clay
The poppies were then hand made from clay. The students begun their designs by making a template shape for the petals and cutting them out of clay to keep the petals consistent.

5. Things got very technical when they were required to make each petal identical, this involved using a rolling pin and guides to ensure each petal was made to be the same size and thickness.

6. Once the petals were made, next came to using their creative minds
Once the petals were made, next came to using their creative minds. They were required to make their designs a little different, some including making smaller petals to add extra 3 dimensional effects, leaves, patterns and much more…

7. When all the sections were made, it was time to piece the puzzles together. The students were amazing at doing this and being extra creative. This included shaping the petals for an extra 3D look, they also added patterns and shapes.
