2. What is classism
Classism is basically based on an individual's social or economic class.
What is a stereotype?
a stereotype is an opinion somebody has on a certain group or a class of people.
What is Discrimination?
Discrimination is the threatening act of both groups and individuals in an unfair matter, because of their race or gender
What is racism?
Racism are actions put towards a groups or individuals based on believing one race is superior to another.
What is Prejudice?
Prejudice is a judgement thought out by an individual or a hostile/unsympathetic term which is usually placed on a type of social group

3. Topic: Identity and Discrimination
Government and law reinforcements are the ones who are responsible to make sure that everyone has certain rights despite age, race, sex,...etc.
As canadians, the rights that we have are written into the law that is responsible to govern the society that we are in.
There are demands that we treat everyone especially men and women equally.
Some examples shared by both women and men equally in Canada are
freedom of association
The freedom of peaceful assembly
freedom of religion
We all have the freedom to be able to believe what we want, and we are able to express our beliefs.

4. 9/11 Changed the way many have come to view Islam and Muslims.
From the attacks, Muslim individuals experienced racism, prejudice, and discrimination
9/11 was responsible for popularizing form of discrimination known as “Islamophobia”
Islamophobia: Racism that leads to prejudice against and fear of islamic beliefs and Muslims
Obese people have an identity and are discriminated against as well
Society believes they lack willpower, thus they overeat and don’t exercise (This is not the case)
American study made that asked 620 doctors to describe obese patients.
Doctors used terms such as: awkward, unattractive, ugly
Another study displayed that the higher the body mass, the less respect given by
the doctor
Given the attitude of the doctors toward obese patients, we can see how society portrays a negative feeling towards the obese

5. Causes of Prejudice and Discrimination? Supporting Theories:
Learned Theory:
Prejudice and discriminatory behaviour are not innate to species
They are learned behaviours that people get through socialization
Competition Theory:
Economic competition is felt within society
key reason why some people come to distrust immigrants
- Whenever an economic crisis is felt by society, some people (incorrectly) assume
that immigration policies and immigrants are responsible

6. Conclusions on Prejudice and Discrimination
Appears everywhere in society
Comes from humans’ tendency to make assumptions based on prior knowledge
Hard to control because it is normal for humans to generalize
Also, many citizens base their prejudice or assumptions they make on media and stereotypes
Prejudice and discrimination are taught, and if not taught by family, peers, and media, then it would diminish
Progress is already being made against
discrimination, however, it is still present
