5 Introduction Caissons
Fuglesangs, in cooperation with 3X Engineering, Equinor and DNV GL, has qualified an innovative solution for the repair of subsea caissons, pipelines and risers affected by corrosion and physical damage. This subsea solution has this summer been installed on Equinor’s Oseberg South platform in the North Sea. The solution is applicable for a wide range of similar applications. Caissons

6 The Oseberg challenge Key Challenges
Subsea Application Ability to withstand wave action Minimum surface adhesion of 5 Mpa Maintain structural integrity Seal holes up to 300mm in diameter The Oseberg challenge To develop a polymer composite wrapping system that can be applied onsite and underwater in low temperature sea water.

7 Damaged Caisson from Pitting Corrosion
Temporary repair utilizing metal plate and Band-It metal straps.

8 Patented subsea wrapping machine
Solution implemented on corroded test pipe Also strong inter-layer adhesion is crucial

13 Megapascal (MPa) adhesion Primer / Steel
Adhesion test on primer, 12’’ pipe welded to plate. Test realized 23/03/2018 at 12 degree celsius. Individual Results Position 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Average « North » 7,3 9,8 12,5 11,5 9,5 11 9,4 9,7 10,1 « South » 7,4 4,4 8,6 10,6 6,8 8,0 « Brush » 10,3 6,6 12,2 5,5 12,4 7,8 6,9 « Hand » 11,4 16,6 8,2 9,6 11,2 Type of failure between glue and primer (cohesive) almost for every failure. This means that the primer adhesion to steel is mostly better than the values above.
