Section 5: Strong Rulers Unite China Witness History Audio: A New Age in China Shi Huangdi Unifies China Shi Huangdi overthrew the Zhou and united China. His Legalist advisors helped him to centralize the power that had belonged to the feudal lords. He replaced the feudal states with military districts administered by loyal officials. He joined the various protective walls into one Great Wall to hold back the nomadic invaders from the north. Notes: Listen to the Witness History audio. Section 5: Strong Rulers Unite China The Han Dynasty Strengthens China The Han took over with the demise of the Qin. Confucian scholars replaced the Legalist advisors. Civil servants were awarded positions through merit. Emperor Wudi expanded the Chinese economy and territory and opened up the Silk Road. Notes: Listen to the Witness History audio.
