March 2011 General PHY requirements Maximum transmit power shall conform with local regulations. Out-of-band spurious emission shall conform with local regulations. Receiver sensitivity definition: Threshold input signal power that gives a specified PER<1% over a random PSDU length of 24 octets. Power measured at antenna terminals. Interference not present. March 2011 General PHY requirements Receiver maximum input level of desired signal shall be the maximum power level of the desired signal present at the input of the receiver for which the error rate criterion of PER<1% mentioned before is met. 6 March 2011 Informative In a nutshell: when a burst of packets is transmitted (burst mode), packets are separated by pMIFS (Minimum Inter-Frame Separation time). ACK packets are not transmitted. Otherwise, packets are separated by pSIFS (Short Inter-Frame Separation time). Marco H. (NICT)

The Rx-to-Tx turnaround time is defined as the time taken from the last sample of the last received symbol is present on the air interface until the time when first sample of the first transmitted symbol of the SHR for the next frame is present on the air interface. The inter-frame spacing is defined as the time taken from the last sample of the last transmitted symbol is present on the air interface until the time when the first sample of the first transmitted symbol of the SHR for the next packet is present on the air interface. March 2011 Carrier sense for FM-UWB The receiver energy detection (ED) measurement for CCA is an estimate of a signal’s power around its central frequency (meaningless when the signal’s power is below the noise floor). No attempt is made to identify or decode signals on the channel. The ED threshold shall correspond to a receive signal power of at most 10 dB above the specified CP-2FSK receiver sensitivity value of -90 dBm. The CCA measurement time shall be pCCATime=63 symbol periods or pEDTime=8 symbol periods. Marco H. (NICT)

11 Clear Channel Assessment (CCA)
March 2011 Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) Mode 1: Slotted Aloha. CCA shall report an idle medium always. Mode 2: Carrier sense. CCA shall report a busy medium upon detecting any energy above the ED threshold. Mode 3: Preamble detection. CCA shall report a busy medium upon detection of a synchronization symbol as specified in sub-clause 10.x. An idle channel shall be reported if no preamble symbol is detected up to a period not shorter than the maximum packet duration plus the maximum period for acknowledgment. Marco H. (NICT)
