3 How to improve... Try to practice a little every day.
Study less and practice more. Cross-train. Self-correction and peer correction. Form a group and practice outside class. Go to Global Zone.. Come and see me.. Be positive and get rid of your shyness. Making mistakes is part of the process... Speak more. Use different sentence structures and say things in 2 different ways to explain.

4 How to do well... This is an active class with partner swaps and activities that require you to be involved... Join in class activities. Talk to me in class ... Ask for help / clarification. Do the practice exams I make for you. Help yourself. Take responsibility. Practice reciprocity. In the oral exams, show me a range of the language we’ve studied.

5 Active Listening and follow up questioning (not just “why?”)
- You should never be sitting doing nothing. If you have finished the task, you need to keep chatting about another topic or recycling the language with other themes. “Last week I went on holiday with a friend”.

6 Correction Techniques
Who should correct mistakes? 1. self correction 2. peer (partner) correction 3. teacher correction Principles Correct in a positive way. Remember learning a language is difficult and we need to support each other. Bonus - Enhance your listening skills by following what is said. Self Correction I encourage self-correction. If you can fix your own mistakes, it shows that you understand and it allows you to feel more confident in your knowledge. "I go(ed) to... I mean, I went to the beach yesterday." “I went to she’s home ” .. “ umm actually her home” Peer Correction Gesture – raise your eyebrow / look puzzled / use your hands. Ask for Repetition – say again ? Huh ? Please repeat that ? What do you mean? Echo – say back (correctly) “did you say / mean .. ” Echo question. “I’m annoying” … “You’re annoying?” Teacher correction I’m the native speaker – ask me!! Remember IF you are making the same mistake over and over you need to say the whole sentence, maybe write it down and review the grammar.. Don’t over-do correction (fluency verse accuracy) Slow down and listen to yourself and others Make sure your partner and you understand that correcting each other isn’t confrontational but helpful.
