Uprising form farmers who protested high taxes and heavy debt Massachusetts farmers had trouble paying debts Courts forced them to sell property or go to jail Daniel Shay leads a group of farmers, take over state Supreme Court If they take over courts then the courts could not force them to sell their land Proved the Articles of Confederation were not working James Madison & Alexander Hamilton call for a convention to fix the national constitution
