Addition Facts II Daily Practice Set
ACMNA055 Recall addition facts for single-digit numbers and related subtraction facts to develop increasingly efficient mental strategies for computation © Professor Pete's Classroom. All rights reserved.

The importance of Practice
The strategies approach that we recommend relies on regular practice of the strategies to support memorization of facts Some people believe that practice equals rote learning; this is clearly not true Rote learning relies on parroting verbal statements until they are memorized, without any understanding Practising strategies strengthens students’ thinking about the numbers and their understanding of mathematical relationships We recommend that students practise using strategies and recalling facts regularly (daily) while learning them initially Thereafter less frequent practice will help consolidate the learning (c) Professor Pete's Classroom, All rights reserved.
12
Using Daily Practice Sets
Click through the 20 questions one by one, at your preferred pace Have students write their answers At the conclusion of the set of 20, have students check their answers During the sequence, prompts are gradually removed, to encourage students to remember the strategy and recall the number facts Repeat Daily Practice Sets at intervals after completion of the Think Bubble series to promote long-term memorization of facts (c) Professor Pete's Classroom, All rights reserved.
13
Daily Practice Set Questions
Each set has 20 questions: The first 10 questions have prompting animations. Click once to start animations. This allows the teacher to control the length of time to discuss the strategy. The next 10 questions, marked with a star, have prompts which disappear after a few seconds. No clicks are needed to start the animation. Click once for each new slide. Depending on the number of questions in the strategy, the 20 questions may be made up with revision questions Answers are found at the end of each set of 20 slides (c) Professor Pete's Classroom, All rights reserved.
