1 Media Ratios AQR 1-5

2 Introduction When buying a new television most people don’t think about what the ratios mean. For instance, what is the difference between a 16:9 ratio screen to a 14:9 or the fact that the screen is a 52 inch? Or, what are the dimensions of this screen and can it truly fit on wall in that area?

3 Content From TV to your phone display and any other rectangular display they all have an aspect ratio that written as W:H or W/H. Where W is the longest side of the rectangle and H is the shortest. Television screens had an aspect ratio of 4:3 and have since then been replaced in most part by the new wide-screen HD displays with an aspect ratio of 16:9.
