Dr. Hasina Rasuli -Dr. Rasuli is a medical doctor from Mazar, Afghanistan -She promotes women’s rights, children’s education, general health care and agricultural education. Open your notebook to page 16L. Write today’s date (1/16) at the top and write the title (same as the top of the slide). You will respond to a few questions in a moment. 2 Questions: 1) What is scientific literacy? 2) Why is it important for a society to be scientifically literate? 3) Why do you think it might be difficult to spread scientific literacy in a place like rural Afghanistan?

3 Scientific Literacy Scientific literacy is the knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts and required for personal decision making, participation in civic and cultural affairs, and economic productivity. Scientific literacy means that a person can ask, find, or determine answers to questions derived from curiosity about everyday experiences. It means that a person has the ability to describe, explain, and predict natural phenomena.
