Presentation on theme: "What does it take to improve students’ reading levels?"— Presentation transcript:

1 What does it take to improve students’ reading levels?

2 It takes: A Principal and AP who will not accept that these students cannot be helped, and who are willing to make the changes in the reading curriculum to do so. Classroom teachers who want to participate at the grass roots level to work with their students. A commitment to an amount of time each day and numbers of days each week where the program must be used. A Principal/AP who are willing to go into the classroom to make sure that the program is implemented properly, and the teachers are using it, even if there is a lot of “hand holding” along the way. Many PD sessions to make sure each teacher understands the methods used and how to use the materials. A program that is multi-sensory, explicit, & systematic that focuses on building the foundation in reading (Phonics) that most students never received and provides strategies for improving comprehension & writing for all students in all grades, all in a way that is liked by students, while providing objective data for the teachers to use to focus on the individual needs of their students.
