6. LOUSIANA PURCHACE JUST A MINUTE
Students have one minute to explain the Louisiana Purchase without hesitating, pausing, repeating themselves. Get them to play on tables? Winner at the end gets a small prize?

7. LOUSIANA PURCHACE
Write a paragraph that explains why the purchase of the Louisiana Territory could cause tension between the North and the South. You must include the following terms:
Statehood
Constitution
Balance of free/slave states
Senate
Get students to understand that this could be a problem because if the territory becomes organised into states:
Constitution does not give guidance on what should happen to slavery
There is a balance of free and slave states, which could become unbalances
This is important for the Senate, where there are 2 Senators per state.
Expansion of slavery will annoy abolitionists (acknowledge they are small)

9. MISSOURI COMPROMISE EMHASIS ON DEPTH
As you should know, the America unit is a depth study, which covers 32 years of history. This means you need to know the Missouri Compromise in detail.
Before the final Missouri Compromise was passed by Henry Clay, there were three other ideas that were proposed (but failed to pass and become law).
Each table will be given one of these other proposals. Your job is to write a speech, explaining what you think the conditions of Missouri entering the Union should be. This speech will be the only information your peers will use to makes notes on!
