Programmatic issues, work areas, priorities
ITER/enabling-technologies (solid materials) ~90% --Focus on All-Metal plasma facing components --Experiments at DIII-D, PISCES, CMOD, US Lab facilities (SNL, UIUC, MIT, etc.) --Modeling/analysis (plasma edge/sol, sputter erosion, ELM etc. erosion, mixed-materials, etc.) Liquid lithium ~10% --NSTX Liquid Lithium Divertor, Lab work, other liquid metals (Sn, Ga) JET, other international devices DEMO, other future device PFC studies

Programmatic issues contd.
Coordinate PFC Program with other US groups/activities Burning Plasma Organization subgroups e.g. tritium issues, diagnostic mirrors FNSF Edge Physics Group Materials Group FESAC FSP Etc.
10
Challenges ReNeW: “Taming the Plasma Interface”– Challenges identified. Our PFC Community Response. Plasma facing component performance is a critical issue for fusion--work underfunded by ~X3 ITER full power D-T plasma in 18 years--motivation issue.
