1 Project 9: Investigating User Benefits and Risks Associated with IoT use REU Student: Kaley Brindisi Graduate mentor: Karla Badillo-Urquiola Faculty Mentor(s): Dr. Wisniewski Week 2 (May 21- May ) Accomplishments: Began researching security risks/concerns associated with IoT device usage iOS Application accomplishments- accurately obtained and displayed data for heartrate, steps, and Fitbit device data, refresh token and access token issue fixed when refreshing the page, auto refresh every 15 minutes, and cache implemented to store last obtained data when the app is first opened Android Application accomplishments- worked on the UI to be the same as the iOS application(fixed the background of the login screen- gradient, label, button, and background image, fixed the dashboard with all the data) Had meeting for training with Ian- learned how to use the database for the user study Problems & Solutions: No NID account to obtain access to the user study questions and the database for recruitment Cannot download the Android application code without getting an error Plans for next week: Continue developing and fixing the app for Android and iOS Continue research security risks/ concerns with IoT devices Research the differences between the technical implementations between the two platforms Complete IRB modification, obtain iRIS account, and access to recruitment database with NID NSF REU Research Experience on Internet of Things 2018
