CONSTRUCTION of TRANSFORMERS
2
Construction of Transformers
In order to approach the characteristics of an ideal transformer the following design features are used, Core is made up of thin sheet of silicon steel laminations to reduce eddy current loss and hysteresis loss 2. One half of each winding on one limb to ensure tight coupling, structural symmetry 3. Windings are made up off usually copper wires, and winding resistance must be less
3
Construction of Transformers
Depending upon the manner in which primary and secondary are wound on the core transformers are two types Core type transformer Shell type transformer
4
Construction of Transformers
Core type transformer Half of each winding in one limb and other half on other limb LV wound below the HV to reduce insulation and mechanical consideration core is surrounding by winding

Construction of Transformers
Shell type transformer Both windings are wound in central limb LV wound below the HV to reduce insulation and mechanical consideration and it also near the core Winding is surrounding by core E or F shaped strips are used
