Stories I is a widow with a 10 year old son was referred to us by a local Food Bank. After having to move from a furnished flat to an empty housing association one she needed almost everything. Work in Cornwall is seasonal so she only had 12 hours work a week in winter. We had just been given a clean cooker so we took it to her. She had 2 mattresses, a table and 2 chairs in the flat. We posted 3 requests on the Acts435 website for essentials. They were met in a week. At the same time we heard about Hidden Help, run by a lady who collected unwanted household items for families in need. For minimal cost, we were able to get her a fridge, washing machine, vacuum cleaner, beds, a sofa and curtains. There was enough money left from the donations for her to carpet the 2 bedrooms. She could not believe strangers would help her get a "pretty home" in 2 weeks.
