4 culture THE REAL MEANING OF SCHOOL-WIDE
MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON WHAT THE BEST TEACHERS WOULD DO/THINK HAVE THOSE HARD CONVERSATIONS BE SPECIFIC ON PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS AHEAD OF TIME (PROFESSIONALISM) BE SPECIFIC ON STUDENT BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS ADMINISTRATION NEEDS TO BE VISIBLE/IN THE CLASSROOM culture

5 The real meaning of School-wide
CULTURE The real meaning of School-wide Sense of family All grade levels matter even they are not “accountable” Build relationships (we are all human/remember they are just kids) TELL survey LOOK for POSITIVES (compliment chart, stories, character chord, victory walk)

6 SCHOOL-WIDE INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES
TEACH THE STANDARDS DIFFERENTIATION QUESTIONING ENGAGEMENT POVERTY (Ruby Payne; bus ride) DATA-DRIVEN

7 DATA DRIVEN VS DATA COLLECTING
Collect and organize Analyze Compare Make changes to daily instruction based on data Flashbacks, MAP, scrimmage, common assessments, pre-tests Goal-setting Effort (data is not useful if students do not give their best effort)

8 CURRICULUM CHOICES Not totally committed to one canned program
Use any program/series/resource to cover the standard rigorously Present the content in a variety of ways Use different resources to provide differentiation Student-led-some content is experienced through pairs and small groups Work with low budget

9 Implementing change Be comfortable with inviting/considering teacher imput (leadership team, content advisory teams) Be wary of making too many changes at once Be thinking down the road for next year May be a good idea but not the right time (parking lot) BABT STEPS-break it down (may just try it in a grade level) Culture drives the success of the change
