CELL GROWTH AND DIVISION
Chapter 4-1
2
The Cell Cycle
3
MITOSIS THE PROCESS IN WHICH THE NUCLEUS DIVIDES TO FORM TWO IDENTICAL NUCLEI.
4
I - P M A T
5
INTERPHASE G1 – Cell Growth S – DNA Duplication (Synthesis)
6
PROPHASE Chromosomes become visible Nuclear membrane disappears
Centrioles move to the poles Spindle fibers form
8
METAPHASE Double stranded chromosomes line up on the midline
Each centromere attaches to a spindle fiber.
10
ANAPHASE Centromeres divide Chromosomes separate
Separate chromosomes move to the poles
12
TELOPHASE Centrioles and spindle fibers disappear
Chromosomes become chromatin Nuclear membrane forms
14
CYTOKINESIS PLANT CELL MITOSIS
Cytoplasm divides to produce two new cells. PLANT CELL MITOSIS Cell plate forms between the two nuclei New cell walls form along the cell plate. Plant cells do not have centrioles but do have spindle fibers.
15
RESULTS OF MITOSIS Mitosis is the division of the nuclei
Mitosis produces two new nuclei that have the same number of chromosomes as the original cell. - DIPLOID MITOSIS QUIZ
16
MEIOSIS Meiosis is the production of sperm and egg.
Meiosis produces four HAPLOID sex cells. 7 min.
