Largest EL and ED population in the District
ELPS -Our Why Largest EL and ED population in the District SW program allows the school to improve the educational program for all students. Large-scale improvements to support Math, Literacy, and Science instruction. HQ PD for all staff improves daily instruction for all students. Increase Partnerships in Learning with Parents.
7
Schoolwide Program Basics
Eligible if at least 40% of enrolled students are low-income May apply for waiver if the school is below 40% threshold Funds used to positively impact entire educational program and raise achievement for all students. Not required to identify and select students for Title I services since entire school population is part of the Title I program. Need to submit a Schoolwide Program Plan for official approval (to district Superintendent) and SW Justification and Assurances form to DESE
8
School-wide Program Plan
Developed with parental/community involvement Based on a comprehensive needs assessment Description of the strategies the school will use to: Provide improved learning opportunities for all students resulting in success on State academic standards Strengthen academic (including enrichment) programs to provide well- rounded education Outline annual evaluation process Provide justification of why SW will be more beneficial than TA
9
Differences in Title I Services
Targeted Assistance (Prior to SY ) School Wide SY to Present 10-20% of Students positively impacted All Students positively impacted Target interventions for about 20% of students Core Curriculum Impact in addition to Targeted interventions Minimal PD (only for TA staff) School-Wide PD Improvement in Math and ELA skill development only for small number of students (TA) Improvement in Math, ELA, and Science teaching and learning for all students Tighter Spending Restrictions More Spending Latitude
10
We’ve Seen So Far Science PD and programming to support Robotics for every student Increased access to Math manipulatives for all classes/students and 2 evidence-based online Math interventions (ALEKS and ST-Math). ELA- increased number of mentor texts, nonfiction texts (all with connections to Science and Humanities, culturally relevant texts) Parent Partnerships- Annual Learning Carnival
11
Mapleshade Achievement Overview
SW grant focus on improving Math and Science Instruction 2014 TA Programming 2017 Year 2 of SW Programming Improvement Science Data NI/W = 51% A/P = 49% NI/W = 31% A/P = 69% NI/W = 20% pts A/P = % pts Math SGP 55 58.5 Positive movement towards high growth
12
Challenges/Considerations
PD outside of school- Who to send? How to bring learning back to benefit all? Continuing to provide targeted interventions for most needy Increasing parent involvement Monitoring Supplement vs. Supplant
13
Teamwork At tables discuss the greatest benefit and challenge you believe your district/school would face transitioning to a Schoolwide Title I program Work on justification statement (Your Why)
