4. Intro to Unit 2 – cultural perspectives
In Unit 1 you examined how culture impacts the way people communicate and interact. In this unit you will extend that investigation to include how culture affects people’s perspectives on things like family and justice. You will think about how people from diverse cultures can come to understand one another through art, as well as universal human concerns. (p. 109)
We will explore texts where people share their unique experiences and perspectives through the narrative structure. We will identify ways in which these authors communicate their perspectives – which literary techniques they use in their writing.

This is an example of a poem that addresses many small moments – these could be defining moments. Students could discuss how these moments change things for the narrator? Or we could use as the opposite of a defining moment…Definitely the piece is used for how the author incorporates sensory language and anaphora as narrative techniques.
