Cellular Respiration Take energy from sugar and release it in for of ATP What organelle is used in cellular Respiration? Mitochondria Aerobic – Needs oxygen to complete Anaerobic– Does not need oxygen
3
Organelles Mitochondria releases energy from sugars Chloroplast Makes sugars by capturing suns energy. Organisms that have chloroplasts (producers) are said to be phototactic Ribosome make proteins Cell Membrane Make of lipids Contractile Vacuole pumps out water taken in during osmosis
4
Prokaryote Smaller in size Less complex Replicate quickly No nucleus or membrane bound organelles Single celled Eukaryote Larger in size More complex Reproduce sexually or asexually Has nucleus and membrane bound organelles
5
What makes something living
Made of cells Break down and build molecules Transport matter / eliminate waste Obtain and use energy Have DNA Grow and develop
6
Viruses Non-living They must have a host cell to reproduce Infects a cell by injecting its DNA into the host cell and taking over its functions Vaccines Are taken to induce an inflammatory response so that you cannot get the virus in future Anti-viral drugs Keep virus from attaching to host cells. Examples: Measles, Polio, Cold, Flu

Cell Characteristics of Kingdom
Archaebacteria -- Archaea Unicellular Prokaryote – no nucleus Cell walls without peptidoglycan Autotroph or heterotroph Methanogens, halophiles PEPTIDOGLYCAN trc.ucdavis.edu
8
Cell Characteristics of Kingdom . . .
Eubacteria -- Bacteria Unicellular Prokaryote – no nucleus Cell walls with peptidoglycan Autotroph or hetertroph Flagella Steptococcus, E. Coli HAVE PEPTIDOGLYCAN
9
Cell Characteristics of Kingdom . . .
Protista -- Eukarya Mostly Unicellular Eukaryote – has nucleus Cell walls composed of cellulose Autotroph or heterotroph Amoeba, Paramecium Pseudopodia, cilia
10
Cell Characteristics of Kingdom . . .
Fungi -- Eukarya Unicellular and Multicellular Eukaryote – has nucleus Cell walls w/ chitin Heterotroph Absorb food outside of body Mushrooms and yeast No locomotion Reproduce with spores
