What does a run-on sentence look like? Example: My pug loves treats, she begs for them. When you place a comma between two independent clauses (My pugs loves treats, she begs for them), you have created what is called a COMMA SPLICE. Rather than bringing the two clauses together, a comma separates them. Instead, USE ONE OF THE FOUR FIXES!

Make it two sentences by using a period and a capital letter! Run–on: My friend danced to the music she was a great dancer! Fix #1: My friend danced to the music. She was a great dancer!

Fix #2 Add a comma and a coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS) to make a compound sentence. Run-on: My friend was a great musician he could play the drums well. Fix #2: My friend was a great musician, and he could play the drums well!

Final Review Make two complete sentences by adding a period and capital letter. Combine the clauses using a comma and a coordinating conjunction. Use a semicolon between the clauses. Add a subordinating conjunction and make one dependent and one independent clause!
