7 Microsoft Business Platform
Key Points: Microsoft delivers a comprehensive application platform that ranges from development tools, servers, to client applications. Microsoft Dynamics is a line of integrated, adaptable business management solutions that works like and with familiar Microsoft software, helping you drive business success. At Microsoft, When we think of our application platform, we don’t just think of .Net or Visual Studio or Windows or SQL server, we’re really thinking about the broader platform: SharePoint, Windows Client, Microsoft Office, our Microsoft Dynamics line of business management solutions, the development tools and management tools, and, of course, all running on a foundation that’s grounded in XML, Web Services, industry standards and our own .NET innovations. With the Microsoft application platform, organizations can build connected systems to bring together their people, processes, and information. The application platform brings IT assets and business processes into a cohesive whole, enabling deeper customer connections, integrated partners, empowered employees, and faster time to market. In the graphic above you see the core building blocks of the Microsoft platform. In the bottom half is the server technologies, and we do a lot of work under the guise of our Windows Server System umbrella to make sure that these systems work well together. You can be sure when we develop these things, the APIs used to write to are done in a consistent fashion, so when you use our development tools it's easier to write to them, whether it's SQL Server or BizTalk or SharePoint or other of the tools. It means that security and manageability is done in a consistent way. These various servers give customers a data repository that is trustworthy and scalable to meet your information storage and reporting needs We work hard through Common Engineering Criteria to make sure that on the overall stack that the server components are all built to work together, and that's not just sort of ‘running together’, that's security, that's management, that's development, it's running the systems themselves. So that's a core part of the work we do, and with the latest releases for BizTalk 2006, SQL 2005 and Visual Studio we've moved that forward. And then, of course, a lot of what our customers ultimately interact with is the client end of the systems. And whether that's a portal, an Office application, a business application from the Microsoft Dynamics line of business management solutions, devices, and ultimately the clients themselves, all of those hook into the overall platform as well. Now let’s drill further into the Microsoft Dynamics component of the Microsoft solution set. Microsoft Dynamics is a line of integrated, adaptable business management solutions that enables you and your people to make business decisions with greater confidence. Microsoft Dynamics works like familiar Microsoft software such as Microsoft Office, which means less of a learning curve for your people, so they can get up and running quickly and focus on what’s most important. And because it is from Microsoft, it easily works with the systems your company already has implemented. By automating and streamlining financial, customer relationship and supply chain processes, Microsoft Dynamics brings together people, processes and technologies, increasing the productivity and effectiveness of your business, and helping you drive business success. Built on a standardized, scalable platform, Microsoft Dynamics accommodates customization needs with easy to use development tools and industry- standard XML-based tools. Microsoft also now has “Live” services. We know we need to extend our platform from clients and server all the way on out to the cloud for you to really deliver faster results and better decisions to the broadest constituency of people. It’s a broad platform. In summary, Microsoft creates and builds a lot of technologies and products that come together to enable customers to write better applications, build better applications, manage and use applications, in a way that will empower your employees to make better decisions faster and that you can trust it's the platform to run your business on. Appendix: Overall, the Microsoft application platform consists of: Microsoft Windows Server. The most productive infrastructure platform for powering connected applications, networks, and Web services from the workgroup to the data center, Microsoft Windows. The world’s most popular operating system for executing the most demanding business applications. Microsoft Windows Mobile.
