1 Warm up 8/17-18 What is a hypothesis?

2

3 Average, Error Accuracy and Types of graphs
#2 Analyzing Data Average, Error Accuracy and Types of graphs (Do NOT copy graphs, charts or tables in your notes → green ?’s are to be answered together as a class)

4

5 Bar Graphs Good for comparing data Specific #’s of specific things

6 Circle Graphs (Pie Charts)
Shows how parts relate to the whole. Often used for percentages. (The whole pie = 100 %)

7 Line Graphs Used to demonstrate continuous change
The slope of a linear graph (a straight line) is constant (y=kx)

8 Draw This REALLY BIG in your spiral / binder

9 Error Error is the largest difference between a measurement and the true value of what is measured. Which of these values has the LEAST amount of error? Which value has the MOST error?

10 Accuracy In science, the word accuracy means how close a measurement is to the true value of what is being measured. Which of these values is the MOST accurate?

11 Averages = The “True Value”
To calculate an average, add up all the measurements and divide by the total number of measurements. Some measurements are more than the average and some are less. Plane Flight Distances Average = 3 Trial 1 = 4 m Trial 2 = 5 m Trial 3 = 3 m Average = 4 m

12 So to review…. Accuracy = How close your measurement is to the average
- How accurate were you? Error = How far away your measurement is from the average Which one is messed up the most? By how much = your error!

13 Reproducibility Reproducibility means two things in science:
1. If you repeat the experiment the same way, you always get the same result. 2. Others who repeat your experiment also get the same result.

14 Drawing Conclusions (Just look at this)
The point of experiments is to allow scientists to come to conclusions. Which group’s data gives a more valid conclusion- Group 1 or Group 2? Why?

15 Warm up 8/19 What kind of graph is this?
