Pentecost is the 3rd major festival in the Christian calendar.
It is when we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church.

2. Gather The Lord be with you And also with you

On the day of Pentecost many languages were spoken and understood – begin worship by greeting in Spanish or French ‘The Lord be with you’

3. When the day of Pentecost came, all the believers were gathered together in one place. Suddenly there was a noise from the sky which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

Everyone say a word or phrase in a different language all at once
Discuss the noise and excitement of the first Pentecost and the accounts of the people who could all understand each other in the hubbub…
Wind and fire
The Hebrew word for wind can be translated as ‘spirit’ or ‘breath’
Discuss the symbolism of wind and fire
Celebrate the Birthday of the Church—have a Pentecost Party....

Wind symbols: powerful, energising, moving, invisible, refreshing etc.
Discuss wind as something that is exciting / enjoyable and also frightening……
Fire symbols: heat, light, burn, powerful, helpful etc.
Discuss fire as something helpful and useful as well as dangerous
Celebrate the Birthday of the Church when the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost
Have a cake or Birthday cake candles—sing Happy Birthday
Birthdays are times to reflect back and look forward
Discuss what you think the first Christians would think of the Church today….
Discuss where the Church should be headed in the coming times……
Celebrate with a game or two and remember that Pentecost is a major Festival along with Easter and Christmas…. (any excuse!!!!)
