Figure Haematogenously invasive phaeochromocytoma without evidence of distant metastases (A) Abdominal MRI shows a heterogeneously enhancing right phaeochromocytoma (arrows) measuring 8·8 cm × 8·6 cm × 9·6 cm with central necrosis and tumour thrombus measuring 8·3 cm × 3 cm, extending from the right adrenal mass through the inferior vena cava into the right atrium. (B) 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET CT scan confirmed a large, metabolically active, heterogeneously enhancing mass (arrows) in the right adrenal gland extending in the inferior vena cava and right atrium (not shown), with no metabolic evidence of distant metastasis.
