Academic Pipeline Issues
Have sufficient students in 2- and 4-year programs in the region, however most lack experiential/work-based opportunities K-12 would like to expand, however face some issues: Universally, schools stated they needed more career awareness activities Lack of academically qualified teachers to teach dual enrolled courses Schools requested job shadowing opportunities, but that can be problematic in this area

Recommendations – Experiential Learning
SFS Scholarships – State and local government can offer internships to Scholarship for Service (CyberCorps) students and can participate at the annual Job Fair (working for local/state government satisfies repayment requirements) Identify small businesses through Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development organizations in area who would participate in experiential activities that provide value to the organization (i.e. security assessments, security awareness training) NSA Day of Cyber VA Apprenticeship Program

Recommendations - Credentialing
Find NSF/NSA grant to fund 18 IT/Cyber credits for teachers Solicit corporate sponsorship, such as what Northrup is presently doing Partner with Community Colleges to deliver the courses to the High School – synchronously (Scribe, or Blackboard as an example), taught by college faculty
