Classifying Organisms
In this task, you will read and participate in two interactive websites that will teach you how to classify organisms. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Go to cpsb.org. Click on select a school and select DeQuincy High School. Click on employees and select website for Michelle Lee. Click on the Biology tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on Classifying Life Project. Choose Classifying Organisms Interactive Website 1 and participate in the activity. When you have finished the first one, choose Classifying Organisms Interactive Website 2 and participate in the activity. This task uses: Blackboard Internet-connected device PBS Learning Media interactive Learning Objective(s): The students will compare characteristics of the major kingdoms (LS-H-C5) TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Michelle Lee School: DeQuincy High School Louisiana State Standard: LS-H-C5, LS-H-C6, LS-H-E3 Grade Level/Subject: Biology/10 Special Directions/Considerations: Teachers should provide links for students to access these sites via their own Blackboard site: Activity Evaluation: Teacher will monitor student progression through activities Prerequisites for students: Some knowledge of how organisms are classified and what characteristics are used to put organisms in a taxon.

New Species Radio Broadcast
M New Species Radio Broadcast Create a radio broadcast informing the public about a new species discovered in DeQuincy, Louisiana. MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign. Each group will create a radio broadcast program using Audacity. Go to cpsb.org. Click on select a school and select DeQuincy High School. Click on employees and select website for Michelle Lee. Click on the Biology tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on Classifying Organisms Project. Use the following tabs to create your project: Audacity Tutorial, the rubric for this project, and the species description. Open the Audacity program (found on the desktop) and create your project. When you are finished, go my Blackboard site and upload the video to the discussion board. This task uses: Blackboard Internet-connected device Audacity Learning Objective(s): Compare characteristics of the major kingdoms (LS-H-C5) Analyze differences in life cycles of selected organisms in each of the kingdoms (LSH-C6) Compare the levels of organization in the biosphere (LS-H-E3) Use technology when appropriate to enhance laboratory investigations and presentation findings (SI-H-A3) TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Michelle Lee School: DeQuincy High School Louisiana State Standard: LS-H-C5, LS-H-C6, LS-H-E3, SI-H-A3 Grade Level/Subject: Biology/10 Special Directions/Considerations: You must download the audacity program (it is free) to an internet-connected device before the project. You must also have taken blackboard 201 and have your students registered in blackboard. In my Blackboard site, Melissa Lee, you will find a tutorial for Audacity in my Blackboard site. Activity Evaluation: See attached rubric Prerequisites for students: Working knowledge of how organisms are classified and what characteristics are used to put organisms in a taxon.

R How Did I Do? Using a peer-reviewed rubric as your guide, you will provide feedback to your peers about the strengths and weaknesses of their project. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. Go to the radio broadcast programs posted in my blackboard discussion board. Listen to the programs that were posted. Review and critique each program using the rubric provided. When critiquing, be sure to provide adequate comments on the areas that were well executed and as well as comments on the areas that could have been improved. When all feedback has been posted, review the comments regarding your project. This task uses: Internet-connected device Student-created radio broadcast products (M task product) Blackboard Printed rubric Learning Objective(s): Compare characteristics of the major kingdoms (LS-H-C5) Analyze differences in life cycles of selected organisms in each of the kingdoms (LSH-C6) Compare the levels of organization in the biosphere (LS-H-E3) Use technology when appropriate to enhance laboratory investigations and presentations of findings (SI-H-A3) TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/ Michelle Lee School: DeQuincy High School Louisiana State Standard: LS-H-C5, LS-H-C6, LS-H-E3, SI-H-A3 Grade Level/Subject: Biology/10 Special Directions/Considerations: You must have taken blackboard 201 and have your students registered in blackboard. This task uses products created by students in the M task card that precedes this one. Activity Evaluation: provided rubric (note: this is the same rubric used for the Modification evaluation) Prerequisites for students: A finished audacity project
