In developed countries such as the UK there has been a great increase in out –of-town retail. Retail parks consist of large, purpose built superstores and shopping centres on the rural urban fringe.

Out of town shopping malls contain many things under one roof.
They contain other facilities such as bowling alleys, restaurants, cinemas.
Due to good main roads, retail developments are serving customers drawn from more than one town or city.
Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent is the fourth largest shopping centre in the UK.
It is located outside London’s M25 orbital motorway, so very accessible.
It contains 300 stores and has 27 million visitors per year.
