Why it matters now The foundation of our liberal democracy is the result of Enlightenment thinking. (Our founding fathers were inspired by Enlightenment thinking)

The Enlightenment thinkers continued a process of challenging the staus quo. Like Martin Luther challnged the church, enlightenment thinkers challenged kings andthe old order. Rethinking government and its power and authroity, led to people wanting to change the old order.
