Ohio’s Forests 31 percent of Ohio is forested.
8.5 million acres in Ohio are in tree cover. 96 percent of Ohio’s forests are hardwood trees (deciduous). 87 percent of Ohio’s forests are owned by private woodland owners. Ohio has 397,000 family forest owners who own a total of 6.2 million acres of woodland. 1,850 woodland owners are Tree Farmers. Tree farmers manage 383,647 acres of Ohio woodlands. Ohio ranks in the top ten nationally in maple syrup production, with about 78,000 gallons.

Service Forester Technical assistance about forest management, watershed protection, insect and disease control, forest recreation, tree planting, and wildlife habitat development. Information on managing timber sales (including sample contracts) as well as working with private foresters and timber buyers. Major of landowners have timbers sales without consulting a forester or even sending bids to multiple buyers. Timber harvest is a management tool. Assistance with the Ohio Forest Tax Law and cost-share incentive programs by inspecting privately-owned forest land to determine eligibility.

Ohio Forest Tax Law 50% reduction of the real-estate taxes on the forested acres. 10.0 acre minimum to qualify 1.0 acre deduction for homesite Property needs a forest management plan and needs to follow that plan

Federal cost share program ran by the NRCS Invasive species control in woodlands Timber stand improvement projects Wildlife habitat structures Tree Plantings Management Plans (CAUV) Highly competitive, some years funding is good.
