1 Weather, Climate, and ME Lesson 8
Precipitation How do we know there is moisture in the air? What makes rain? What makes sleet? What makes snow? What makes hail?

2 BRAINSTORM!!! What evidence do we have that there is water vapor in the atmosphere? Early morning dew Condensation on car and house windows Hot, sticky, humid, weather outside and in the classroom. Any others?

3 Precipitation is part of the Water Cycle
A. Precipitation is water that falls from the clouds. B. Four types of precipitation. 1. Rain is… drops of water falling when the temperature is above freezing. 2. Snow forms when the air temperature is so cold that water vapor changes directly to a solid. 3. Sleet forms when snow passes through warm air, melts and then refreezes near the ground. 4. Hail forms when water drops freeze in layers around a small nucleus of ice.
