2. Vision
The OIE Global Animal Welfare Strategy was created with the following vision: A world where the welfare of animals is respected, promoted and advanced, in ways that complement the pursuit of animal health, human well-being, socio-economic development and environmental sustainability.

3. The OIE Global Animal Welfare Strategy is based on the following four pillars
• Development of animal welfare standards
• Capacity building and education
• Communication with governments, organizations, veterinary services, educational institutions and the public
• Implementation of animal welfare standards and policies

4. Activities
To support the elements outlined on the pillars, future activities will continue with the aim of delivering improved animal welfare outcomes through the implementation of this Strategy.

5. Activities Establishment of a forum;
Development and implementation of science–based animal welfare standards;
Encouraging and supporting the ongoing development, evolution and implementation of Regional Animal Welfare Strategies (RAWS);
Strengthening of National Veterinary Services through capacity building activities;
Broadening the horizons and strengthening relationships between animal welfare science and other areas of sciences.

6. Next steps
To propose the OIE Global Strategy on Animal Welfare for adoption by the OIE World Assembly of Delegates during the 85th General Session in May 2017.
