The Haida Gwaii consists of 150 independant islands
Plate tectonics, glacial erosion, and changing sea levels have affected the islands, causing adaptations in the geological structure
The islands are all separated by a shallow body of water that ranges around 100 kilometers from island to island (The Hecate Strait)
Sandy beaches and bogs cloud around the islands

3. How was Haida Gwaii created?
Haida Gwaii was created from movements of huge plates
The plates underground were from under the Pacific Ocean, in the region of the South Pacific
They shifted to their current position 20 million years ago, but they consist of materials 250 million years old
Haida Gwaii always gets many powerful earthquakes, and holds the questionable record for being the victim of the most powerful earthquake in Canada

4. Why should Haida Gwaii be listed as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the Western Hemisphere?
It has so much history~totem poles, ancient Haida music, traditional Haida dances, etc…
In fact, “Haida Gwaii” means “Land of the people!”
The natural shifts in temperature and land has caused beautiful landscapes~natural beauty
Haida Gwaii is very cultural to Haida living and history; such as, it showed how Haida Gwaii may have been one of the birthplaces for the ancient Haida people!

5. Bog fills the air as the crystal clear waters lap against the pearly tan sand. Palm leaves sway against the gentle breeze, emitting a soft woosh~woosh isound. The Hecate Strait is glass~like as the wind dies down, the sunset filling the beach with rays of pink and gold. The mountain peaks seem to reach the sky, towering high above the white fluffy clouds. Black~tailed deer frolic deep in the grove of the main island, and beavers build their small dams across the Strait as squirrels are busy scurrying around the forest floor. As night sets, all that is heard is the crickets as they hop among the short, stubby grasses; as the island and people of Haida Gwaii goes to sleep.
