Decades of Design 1970s

The events of the 1960s, including war and social change, seemed destined to continue in the 70s. Advances in civil rights, increased influence of the women's movement, the introduction of the new man, a heightened concern for the environment, and space exploration were all topical issues. History The events of the time were reflected in and became the inspiration for much of the literature, entertainment, interior design, advertising and even fashion of the decade.

History This was probably the first era to have seen the explosion of diets and low calorie food. Interior design was still influenced by the psychedelic 60s but had evolved into a more modern and organic look.

The Hi Tech, Industrial Style appeared with many industrial products being used.
There was an explosion of office furniture systems with interchangeable modular units introducing the beginning of ergonomic design. 1970s Furniture

Television and radio had became focal points of entertainment.
As technology progressed gadgets became more desirable offering an easier way of life. Why hand knit when you can have a knitting machine? 1970s Electronics

Women were fashionable in everything from ankle-length grandmother dresses to flares and knitwear.

Food in the 1970s More processed foods and diet products were widely available and accepted as a good thing.

1970 Concorde makes its first supersonic flight (700 mph/1127 km/h).
1971 Intel releases world's first microprocessor, the 4004. The First Internet Chat rooms appear . Apollo 14 lands on the Moon. 1972 Digital Watches are introduced. Atari kicks off the first generation of video games with the release of PONG, the first game to achieve commercial success. 1974 The first use of UPC or Universal Product Code BAR CODE UPC scanner installed. 1975 BIC launches first disposable razor. 1976 Matsushita introduces the VHS home video cassette recorder to compete with Sony's Beta max system. 1977 The first Apple II computers went on sale.
