2. “Still you think you're worth it

Student: Salome Tobar Class: Second D
My name is Salome Tobar, my school code is 1234, and today I am going to talk about the photograph that was presented to me as a part of an evaluation. The picture is called “Still you think you’re worth it?” and it is related with Science and Ethics. In this image, the most notorious part that can be seen is the little rabbit, because it pops out in relation to the other elements in the picture. A lot of emotions are reflected in the photograph, such as sadness, sorrow and misery. In the foreground there are two containers, a piece of paper which has numbers and letter written on it, and the bunny which has a kind of plastic surrounding on its head. In the background there is a person, maybe a scientist who is wearing an apron and who is grabbing the bunny with one of his hands, which is covered by a latex globe. In my opinion, they are in a laboratory in the afternoon. It seems like the rabbit has been born through recent experiments, that’s the reason why it looks totally confused and its body appears to be very tense. As it has some healing bands over its fur, I consider that scientists have hurt it, maybe in order to experiment with it to find a cure for human disease or for a health problem that people struggle with Part 1

Maybe the photographer took the photograph in order to make people conscious about what animals suffer when they pass through this kind of testing. The situation presented in the picture takes place all around the world, but in my estimation it occurs in a greater range in Anglophone countries, such as United States or England. In case of the US, as the country has many scientists and laboratories where they can make experiments, finding a cure for a disease by taking animals into tests where they agonize and sometimes even die is totally common. The picture itself transmits a message to the one who sees it, maybe makes a person reconsider if the well-being of human life is worth thousands of animal deaths. I wonder if society is able to find a solution for this issue, and I’m sure it is possible to find one. We can employ technology to create simulators of the way a human body functions, and in that way, any animal won’t be required to go through pain. We need to refocus and adapt new methodologies to discover the efficiency of drugs without hurting another life Part 2

4. My name is Danna Mancero, I’m an IB student
My name is Danna Mancero, I’m an IB student. I’m from Cardenal Spellman Girl’s School. My candidate number is one thousand one hundred, and today I’m going to talk about science and technology.
In the picture below at the background I can see a scientist who is holding a white bunny. At the foreground I observe that the animal is wearing a plastic cone to prevent him to take out his bandages and harm himself. Next to the mammal, there are some jars that are fulfilled with some strange medicine. In the front, there is a blue card with numbers and letters that shows what medications were applied on this poor thing. In this photograph I notice that the rabbit is very injured and it makes me feel sad and disappointed because this makes realize how far could people go just to check out if their creations work efficiently. In the picture, the doctor is trying to test his work on this small creature. The black background gives the image some seriousness that calls the attention of the viewers making them reflect about animal testing. This portrait was taken in a laboratory, as we all know this innocent animal is not the first to be sacrificed in these kinds of trials. As for me, I have seen a lot of TV programs, movies and internet researches that promotes different methods to use instead of this cruel investigation. From what I have researched, I suggest that we should change our way of living by doing exercise, eating healthy food and staying hydrated to prevent getting sick, so there would be no need for medical treatments and animal testing will stop. I wish to start a campaign which mission is to avoid the use of animals for experiments because they are living things too.
