Continued work on this project resulted in the development of efficient methods for the preparation of new ligand systems, phosphinite (1) and aminophosphine (2), for pyridylidene pincer complexes:
Investigation of coordination chemistry of 1 afforded a series of nickel complexes.
Instability of 1 in protic solvents (water and alcohols) presents a significant practical problem, whereas the water-stable aminophosphine 2 is a very attractive candidate for further work.
A reaction of 2 with [RuCl2(p-cymene)] cleanly afforded a novel pyridylidene complex. Investigation of coordination chemistry of 2 is currently underway.
