School Title I Parent Involvement Policy
Principals of Title I schools must: Ensure that their School Title I Parent Involvement Policy is jointly developed with and approved by parents of Title I students. The school policy must indicate when and how the school: Involves parents in the development of the Title I Parent Involvement Policy. 2) Involves staff and parents as partners in creating the School-Parent Compact. 3) Provides parents opportunities to strengthen their capacity to support their children’s learning and achievement. 4) Ensures accessibility and opportunities for parents with limited English proficiency, with disabilities, or parents of migrant students.

School Title I Parent Involvement Policy
The School Title I Parent Involvement Policy must be reviewed annually and revised as needed to reflect major changes, such as changes in demographics, curriculum and testing programs, the availability of parent center facilities and programs, and/or other major changes impacting the school. The policy must be adopted by parents for inclusion in the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and must meet all Title I mandates for parental involvement.

School Parent Involvement Policy
Link actions to goals in SPSA and to school data. Connect activities for families to what students are learning and doing in class. Include contact information to support parents and students. Describe how students will be responsible for their learning. Consult with parents on communication strategies that work best for them. Translate into families’ home languages and non-teacher specific language.

School-Parent Compact
Developed jointly Approved by Title I parents Disseminated in a parent-friendly manner FATIMA- Schools must develop a Parent Involvement Policy and School-Parent Compact. These must be disseminated to parents of TI students and be made available to the local community. In the next few slides, we’re going to spend some time looking at the School-Parent Compact and the vision for where the district is going…

School-Parent Compact
A written agreement of shared responsibility, answering the question: How will families and school staff work together this year to achieve the goals of the school improvement plan? Distribute to all Title I parents by: December 2, 2016

What is Required for the Compact?
The Compact must: Be linked to the goals of the school improvement plan. Explain what teachers will do to support family learning. Describe strategies families can use at home to strengthen students’ skills. Describe what students will do to reach their achievement goals.

Describe activities that support parent-teacher partnerships. Be written in family-friendly language. Be developed with meaningful input from families. Describe how the school will provide high-quality curriculum and instruction. Explain how the school will communicate regularly with families about student progress.

School Site Council (SSC)
The SSC is a decision-making council for all programs funded through the Consolidated Application. The SSC has two primary functions: Developing, revising and adopting the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) Ensuring that a school meets all federal parental involvement mandates.

SSC ELEMENTARY COMPOSITION*
Not employed at the child’s school Parent Member: Is an individual who is a mother, father or legal guardian not employed at the school with which the council is affiliated. Community member: Resides and/or works within a specific school’s attendance boundary. PROOF IS REQUIRED. On an annual basis, parents designate by vote whether to assign their parent member seat(s) on the council to eligible community members. Suggestions: elect alternates for each sub-group (excluding the principal) in the event of mid year vacancies. Teacher provide direct instruction to the pupils for the full time of employment principal is the only automatic member on the SSC. It is strongly recommended that the principal not serve as the SSC chairperson. Other personnel are employees who do not provide direct instruction to pupils for the full time of employment. Middle schools may include student according to bylaws. High school must include students equal portion on the parent/community side. *All members must be elected by their peers, except the principal who is the only automatic member.

SSC SECONDARY COMPOSITION*
There must be parity between parents and students on the parent/student portion of the council. According to the California Education Code, section 33133(c), at middle schools, a SSC may, but is not required to, include student representation. 25% Parents/ Legal Guardian Community Student (Secondary) Is not employed at the child’s school * All members must be elected by their peers, except the principal who is the only automatic member.
