Which is not an asymptote of the function
Warm up Which is not an asymptote of the function A. x = –6 B. f(x) = 0 C. x = 2 D. f(x) = 4

7-4 Graphing Rational Functions
Graph rational functions with horizontal and vertical asymptotes. Graph rational functions with oblique asymptotes and point discontinuity.
3
Cool features: They have asymptotes!
They can have excluded values in both domain and range! Sometimes they just have a hole in them! To graph: Figure out asymptotes. Find some other points.
4
HORIZONTAL ASYMPTOTES

10
If functions have common factors in top and bottom, you get HOLES!
13
To graph: Factor numerator and denominator. Figure out any vertical asymptotes and holes. Does it have horizontal asymptotes? Higher degree on top, no horizontal, but possible oblique/slant. Same degree top and bottom, y=ratio of lead coefficients Higher degree on bottom, y=0 is horizontal asymp. Find some other points. Make sure you show all branches.
