10 PARADIGM LEAP - Be creative continuously

11 EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION & ANTICIPATION
Excellence => The requirement of the 21st century. Pm’s doctrine 1 Malaysia => People is the Priority Performance is the utmost. Statistic process control, continuous improvement, benchmarking, constant pursuit of excellence, 7 habit of effective man, ~ Edward W. Deming, Philip Crosby. Innovation => the way you gain competitive edge. Innovation + excellence = continuous improvement. No one emerged leaders of tomorrow per se.

12 Hence Excellence + Innovation is still not enough.
The top five will always be changing. You must be one of the top five. Any thing lower you have to copy cat, therefore, not enough capital to finance your R&D. Hence Excellence + Innovation is still not enough. Anticipation=> expert information , be at the right time , right place, right products & services. You see sometimes great ideas arrived too late. IBM => Hewlett & Packard. Ford cars all black+> colourful. Anticipation enable you to anticipate customers need, innovate the products or services required, fast, safe & cheaper/at cost. Therefore you must have Innovation + Anticipation.

13 The current trend in the 21st Century – a watch industry story
Which nation dominate world watch making industry. Key word is innovate. The Swiss constantly improves. They invented the minute hand and the second hand. They improve the bearing, the gears & the main springs,& waterproofing watches cutting edge. They introduced the self winding mechanism they captured 65% world market, with 90% profit. 1980 ~ Swiss watches slumped to a record low of 10% world market, profit dropped to only 20%. What happened?

14 They ran into paradigm shift.
Mechanical V. Electronics. In less than 10 years the powerful, confident, profitable, dominant leaders’ reputation crashed , 60,000 watchmakers in Switzerland lost their jobs. Another nation prospered. Japan was the new conqueror. Japan had only 1% share of world watch market in they invented the quartz technology. Seiko led the charge. Today. 48 years later Japanese dominated 33% of world watch industry with equivalent profit of 33%. Swiss had came out of the idea in 1967 of electronic quartz movement. The idea was rejected. No main springs, no bearing , no gears, battery powered, electronic gimmick. No future. Seiko took one look, the rest was history.

15 What is Paradigm leap? Thomas S. Khun +> 1962, The Structure of Scientific Revolution. = a pattern, trend, thinking, model, example. Pronounce it as para dime. Greek = paradeigma establish boundaries. tells you how to behave in the boundaries. Eg. Game of net ball/ basket ball Each have set parameters and equipment. (Bounderies is established ) Eg. How to play : Only by hand. No feet/ head involved. Two referees.

16 Conclusion A PARADIGM IS A SET OF RULES AND REGULATION ( WRITTEN OR VERBAL ) BETWEEN COMPETING TEAMS, RIVALS , BUSINESS COMPETETORS.    HOW IS SUCCESS MEASURED ? Success is measured by your ability to solve problems. All games are problems you have got to solve immediately so as to give your opponent problems that they cannot solve therefore losing the points to you.

17 4Q WHEN DO NEW PARADIGMS APPEAR
WHAT KIND OF PERSON IS A PARADIGM SHIFTER/ LEAPER ? WHO ARE THE EARLY FOLLOWERS? WHY THEY FOLLOW? WHAT IS THE EFFECT TO THOSE WHO FOLLOW THEM?
