What does a TC deliver? Standards Track Work Products “A Work Product produced and approved by a TC in accordance with the TC Process which may be promoted to Committee Specification or OASIS Standard” Examples: Working Drafts Committee Specification Drafts (CSDs) Committee Specifications OASIS Candidate Standards Non-Standards Track Work Products “A Work Product produced and approved by a TC in accordance with the TC Process which may be progressed to Committee Note. Non- Standards Track Work Products are intended to be informative and explanatory in nature. They are not subject to the patent licensing and non-assertion obligations requirements of the OASIS IPR Policy” Examples: Committee Note Drafts (CNDs) Committee Notes Source: OASIS TC Handbook, Work Product Lifecycle
3
Working Draft Preliminary document produced by one or more Members (typically editors) of a Technical Committee. No official standing. Initial starting point where all of the writing, rewriting and editing happens for any Work Product.
4
Committee Specification Draft (CSD)
First-level approval stage on the Standards Track. Based on a specified version of a Working Draft. Approval by full majority vote of the TC. One or more CSDs (but not necessarily all) can be submitted for public review by full majority vote as a Committee Specification Public Review Draft (CSPRD).
5
Committee Specification
Next level of approval on the Standards Track. Must be based on a CSPRD. Requires Special Majority Ballot (at least 2/3 of full voting membership in favor, no more than 1/4 opposed; abstentions don’t count).
6
Candidate OASIS Standard
Penultimate stage of approval on the Standards Track. Must be based on Committee Specification. Requires Special Majority Ballot to advance a Committee Specification to a Candidate OASIS Standard.
7
OASIS Standard Highest level of approval on the Standards Track.
Unlike other steps, requires OASIS-wide ballot; each OASIS Organizational Member has one vote. Ballots follow additional public review periods.
