2. Definition
Is a player contact foul, during “playing time”, which, in the judgement of the official, is not a legitimate attempt to directly play the ball within the spirit and intent of the rules.

3. Judgement Guidelines Judge the actions, not intent or the result
Contact with no attempt to play the ball
Excessive contact while playing the ball
Excessive contact away from the ball
Time of the game is irrelevant

4. Preventing a Breakaway
Defensive foul to stop a fast break Contacting an opponent from behind or laterally before contacting the ball, during an attempt to play the ball No opponent between the offensive player and the basket Once the act of shooting begins, contact must be judged as any other shooting foul

5. Unsportsmanlike Foul Penalty Recorded as a player foul and Team foul
Free throws awarded to the player that was fouled
Not in the act of shooting – 2
In the act of shooting and good basket – 1
In the act of shooting and no basket – 2 or 3
Opponents are awarded a throw in at the centre line extended with a new shot clock
A player shall be disqualified if they receive 2

6. Technical Foul
Any non-contact foul of a behavioural nature during playing time
Any contact or non-contact behavioural or unsporting actions by players, coaches, assistant coaches, excluded players or team followers occurring during an “Interval of Play”
Disrespecting officials
Baiting an opponent
Excessive swinging of elbows
Delaying the game

7. Technical Foul Penalty
By a player – it is recorded as a player foul and team foul
By team bench personnel – it is recorded against the coach and is not a team foul
1 free throw is awarded to the opponent’s team
Opponents are awarded a throw-in at the centre line extended with a new shot clock
A player is disqualified if they receive 2
A coach is disqualified if they receive 2 direct or a combination of 3
