The priest uses water to show that we are clean and we remember Jesus’ baptism in the river.

The priest makes the sign of the cross with an oil to show that we are protected and strengthened by God’s holy spirit.

Jesus is the light of the world and our parents are given a candle so we are reminded of this.

We are wrapped in a white cloth or garment; this is a sign of purity and being clean.
