2 President-elect Barack Obama may I please have your time, I would like to present this presentation on the issues in my community in hope you could help me in repairing it

3 Gun violence What I want to point out is that guns are killing our community and many children die from it. I would like to give you some facts on how gun violence affect our life.

4 4,223 young people ages 0-19 were killed by gunfire- one every two hours, nearly 12 every day in the U.S. in 1997. 2,580 were murdered by gunfire.

5  More than 20,500 American children and teens were shot in murders, assaults, suicides, accidents, or by police intervention. 3,027 kids died from gun violence  1,972 children and teens murdered.  822 children and teens killed themselves.  173 children and teens killed accidentally.  21 killed by police intervention.  39 died but the intent was unknown.

6 IN ONE YEAR (ages 0-19) EVERY DAY (on average)  Every day, 280 people in America, 56 of them children and teens were shot in murders, assaults, suicides, accidents, and police intervention.  Every day, 84 people die from gun violence.  Every day, 8 children and teens die from gun violence.  Every day, 196 people are shot, but survive their gun injuries.  Every day, 48 children and teens are shot, but survive their gun injuries.

7 71,417 people survived gun injuries
52,748 people injured in an attack. 3,190 people injured in a suicide attempt. 14,678 people shot accidentally. 801 people shot in a police intervention.

8 30,694 people died from gun violence
 12,352 people murdered.  17,002 people killed themselves.  789 people killed accidentally.  330 killed by police intervention.  221 died but intent was not known

9 17,449 kids survived gun injuries
 14,009 injured in an attack.  285 injured in a suicide attack.  3,086 shot accidentally.  69 shot in a police intervention.

10 THERE ARE TOO MANY VICTIMS OF GUN VIOLENCE
because we make it too easy for dangerous people to get dangerous weapons in America. IN ONE YEAR (all ages)  More than 100,000 people in America were shot in murders, assaults, suicides, accidents, or by police intervention. Make the right choice
