1 Reconstruction Amendments

2 13th Amendment The first Reconstruction Amendment ended slavery in the US. This is a poster created after the Civil War to celebrate the end of slavery in all of the United States. Amendment XIII (Student read from pg 25)

3 Continued… Required of states to adopt the 13th Amendment before they were readmitted as states Brought about social change for African Americans

4 14th Amendment This amendment gave African Americans citizenship.

5 Continued… Designed to protect the political and social rights of freedmen, from intimidation. It overturned the Dred Scott Decision by recognizing African American’s as citizens It upheld the rights of all citizens to “equal protection” before the laws and “due process” of law

6 15th Amendment This amendment granted the right to vote to all men 21 and older. This image shows African Americans exercising their right to vote. Amendment XV (Student read from pg 27)

7 Continued… This Amendment’s purpose was to ensure all men from the North and South had the right to vote without being discriminated against by “race, creed, or previous condition of servitude.”
