7. What is convection?
Wood is not a good conductor of heat. It will not aloow heat to transfer through it easily.
Both do not allow heat to pass through them easily. Both are insulators.

Hot water rises because molecules spread apart when heated making them less dense so it rises, cold water sinks because molecules move closer together making it more dense so it sinks.
