4. PURPOSE
PTDY is used to give authorized servicemembers time away from their assigned duties, to assist with their transition activities such as job and house hunting
Excess leave can be used in lieu of PTDY but only by eligible servicemembers, and in extreme cases

5. ELIGIBILITY
PTDY
Members involuntarily separated under honorable conditions
Retiring individuals (including transfer to the fleet reserve and disability)
Members discharged for medical reasons may be eligible upon receipt of separation (conditions apply)

6. ELIGIBILITY CONT’D Excess Leave
Those with a separation program designator (SPD) that confers transition benefits
The excess leave option is not available for retirees only members involuntarily separated under honorable conditions

7. TIME FRAMES PTDY Involuntarily separated (CONUS): 10 days
Involuntarily separated (OCONUS): Up to 20 days
Retired (CONUS): 20 days
Retired (OCONUS): Up to 30 days
Retired CONUS who have legal domiciles OCONUS and plan to return OCONUS: Up to 30 days

8. TIME FRAMES CONT’D
Excess Leave
No more than 30 days can be granted

9. RULES
PTDY
Cannot combine with liberty weekends, special liberty, or holidays for the purpose of extending job/house hunting activities
Can be taken in conjunction with chargeable leave
Can be taken all at once or in increments unless time constraints dictate it all be taken at once
Servicemembers separating at EAOS are not eligible

10. RULES CONT’D Excess Leave
Servicemember may request excess leave or PTDY, but not both.
Excess leave has to repaid via dollar amount once sailor separates.
