Warm-up: Why would a well-known person such as a general or president speak at the grave-site of fallen soldiers?
Task:
Listen to Pericles’ “Funeral Oration” Write down his main ideas (his views about Athens, war, and the government in general, etc.)
Listen to Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address”Write down his main ideas (his views about the United States, war, and the government in general, etc.).
Discuss both speeches and attempt to find similarities and differences (participation will be counted as extra credit)
There could be a writing assignment associated with these speeches if I find the discussion to be lacking.
