Have daily conversations with your child about school Ask questions that can be answered with more than “yes” or “no” Sample questions: What did you do in class? What was the best and worst part of your day? Which class or activity did you enjoy the most/least today? What do you have for homework tonight? What new word did you learn in school today? What does that word mean? Did you have any problems at school today? If so, what were they? 11/29/2018

Learn About Standardized Tests Find out about the tests your child is expected to take and when they are given (benchmark exams, CELDT, CST) Be sure your child attends school on test days—and regularly! Find out how the school is preparing students for these exams or if they are taking any practice tests Become familiar with The material being tested The format of the test, such as multiple choice or essay How the test is scored and what the score means How the results will be used 11/29/2018

10 How Did SLUSD Become a Title 3, Year 4 District?
San Leandro USD did not meet state identified targets for English Learners AMAO 1 (measured by CELDT)----1st year missed in AMAO 2-(measured by CELDT)----2nd year in a row missed from AMAO 3- (measured by CST)-----4th year in a row missed from We entered into Title III, Year 4 Improvement in Fall 2011 SLUSD is now required to: Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment of our English Learner program (completed November, 2011) Analyze Achievement Data using the English Learner Subgroup Self-Assessment (completed November, 2011) Develop a Title 3, Year 4 plan, identifying high leverage strategies to increase student achievement for ELs (1st draft submitted to Alameda County Office of Education on 12/21/11; Final draft approved by school board on 1/10/12. Will be submitted to state on 1/23/12 Implement Title 3, Year 4 plan with quarterly monitoring from the state (begins March 2012) 11/29/2018
