11 The School Day Breakfast club is available from 8 am each day.
Lessons start at 8:30 am. If a student arrives after 8.30 am, they get a late mark, leading to a detention. On Mondays and Fridays the compulsory school day finishes at 2.40 pm. Students can opt in to Performing Arts enrichment activities (until 4 pm) on these nights for a small fee (£30 per term). On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays school finishes at 4 pm. A compulsory part of the CAPA Juniors curriculum and assessment is participation in a number of performances and rehearsals that take place during the evening and at weekends or school holidays. Some optional extra-curricular events will involve additional rehearsals outside of school time.

12 Calendar Key dates for the year will be sent out to parents/carers in an information pack at the start of term in September. Performances and events are a key part of CAPA Juniors curriculum and assessment. Please check and inform us of any issues with dates as soon as possible (by the end of the first week of term in September). CAPA Juniors annual major performance and rehearsal period in the Spring term. Please note these rehearsals and performances are a compulsory part of the CAPA Juniors curriculum and assessment. Other events, performances and additional rehearsals may be added throughout the year. Parents/carers will always be informed of details as soon as possible. It will be made clear whether these are compulsory or optional.

13 Break and lunchtime School uses a cashless system for students to buy lunch. This means students can come in to school and put money on their account using a fingerprint system. Students buy their food ‘using their fingerprint.’ Parents can add money to the system using the internet and Parent Pay. You will get more details of this later. If you ever wish to know what your child has been eating – we can print a record of it!

14 What you need to provide
Bags, pens/pencils and other basic stationary. Contributions to optional trips throughout the year. Contributions to costumes – e.g. provide a red t-shirt. A contribution of £15 per half term for optional singing or instrumental lessons (there may be subsidies available if your child is entitled to Free School Meals currently or has been in recent years).

15 Planners Every student is given a planner for the year on the first day in September. Planners are needed every day and homework is recorded in them. Used as a link between Form Tutors and parents/carers. Must be signed each week by Form Tutors and parents/carers. Lost/damaged planners must be replaced (£5).

16 Homework All subjects will set homework on a regular basis.
Students will record this in the student planner. If students do not complete their homework, their class teacher will issue them with a detention either at break, lunch or after school.

20 Absence / illness Please call the attendance team at school first thing in the morning if your child is going to be absent due to illness. All absences from school must be covered by a letter on return to school, or by a telephone call on the first day of absence. (Option 1) As a safeguarding measure, we do contact parents on the first day of any absence to confirm that the absence is genuine. We feel that this is an important service as it alerts parents to any absences or lateness that they may be unaware of.

21 Attendance To ensure that your child reaches their full potential and achieves the qualifications they are capable of, we set 95% as being an minimum acceptable attendance figure. The school’s Educational Welfare Officer will communicate with parents where attendance may become a concern and work with the family to avoid prosecution where possible. Holidays in term time will not be approved.

22 External arts commitments
We are very supportive of students external Arts commitments and will try to be as flexible as possible to accommodate external performances/auditions/exams. However, we have to be aware that students first priority must be their full-time secondary education. Any external events that require time off curriculum time (including the annual intensive rehearsal & performance period) need to be authorised by the academy. This would include auditions out of school time but leading to work that would require time off school. Parent/carers should phone or write to school with full details of the event. The academy will then authorise/not authorise the request.
